ABOUT

HISTORY

THE COMMONS

In February of 2021, Chesterfield Presbyterian Church (CPC) found out about the possibility of purchasing the property on the corner of Baxter and Clayton roads. COVID had closed the Gold’s Gym; it never reopened.

In July of 2021, CPC purchased the facility, which, in addition to serving as a fitness center for more than 15 years, was previously a grocery store. It was in need of extensive renovation, including the removal of a pool.

In August of 2021, renovation began on the large space. Electrical, plumbing, heating and cooling, pavement, security cameras, painting, and new locks allowed the church to start using it right away. The gym needed some repair, but in no time, it was hosting groups for basketball and other activities.

In late 2022, “The Commons” was selected as the name for the facility, reflecting our desire for it to be a place that brings people together.
